A Refined Steel’s Confession: Why Am I More Expensive Than Ordinary Steel?

2026-05-25

Hello everyone, I’m Jingzhi Steel. I’ve earned a bit of recognition in the architectural curtain‑wall industry, and I’m often asked: “You look pretty much like ordinary steel—so why do you charge more?” Today, I’d like to share openly with my colleagues in the curtain‑wall world: what exactly gives me the confidence to command this higher price?

First of all, let me emphasize that my “premium” status stems from the quality of materials and manufacturing processes—far from being inflated. Conventional steel is produced through a rather crude, assembly‑line approach, good enough for basic applications. By contrast, as a refined grade of steel, I’m built to exacting standards right from the start. The raw materials must be high‑grade structural steels, and alloying elements like niobium and titanium are added. Even just the cost of these premium inputs is significantly higher than that of ordinary steel—let alone the additional steps required, such as vacuum degassing and electroslag remelting, which thoroughly remove impurities, ensuring a uniform and exceptionally pure composition.

As for the manufacturing process, it’s truly “meticulous craftsmanship.” With ordinary steel, manual cutting and basic welding would suffice, and tolerances of several millimeters were no big deal. But for me, we rely on high‑end equipment—CNC five‑axis cold bending and laser cutting—achieving precision within ±0.05 mm, with every one of 45 production steps absolutely indispensable. Take my case: a single laser‑cutting machine costs several million yuan, and the entire production line requires an investment exceeding ten million yuan. Energy consumption and material waste are also far higher than with standard steel, so these costs naturally have to be factored in.

Moreover, with my superior strength, ordinary steel simply can’t compare. My tensile strength is 60% higher than that of standard steel, yet my wall thickness can be reduced to just 1.5–3 mm. For curtain walls, I can cut weight by 20–30% while effortlessly accommodating complex curved surfaces. I also come with laser cladding for enhanced protection, boosting corrosion resistance fivefold—so you can expect decades of rust‑free performance with virtually no maintenance down the line. When you factor in long‑term costs, it’s actually far more economical.

To put it plainly, the “premium” of my product lies in its quality, its technology, and the peace of mind it delivers.
