Recently, Changge Xinkuan Technology Development Co., Ltd. and the School of Mechanical and Energy Engineering at Xuchang University held a signing ceremony for a university–enterprise cooperation agreement to jointly establish a research laboratory dedicated to the lightweight design of architectural steel structures. The two parties will collaborate on three key areas—custom‑shaped precision steel for curtain walls, photovoltaic metal mounting brackets, and recycled metal components—to advance the industrial application of cutting‑edge mechanical manufacturing research from the university. This partnership also serves as a model case of in-depth university–enterprise collaboration within Changge’s steel processing sector.
Under the cooperation agreement, Xuchang University will assign specialized mentors and resident graduate students to the company’s laboratory, where they will conduct research projects addressing key technical challenges in the industry. XinKuan Technology will provide production facilities, processing equipment, test steel materials, and dedicated R&D funding, with priority given to commercializing new processes and products developed in the laboratory. The initial phase of the collaboration focuses on two major areas: “Optimization of Strength in Recycled Steel Curtain Wall Components” and “Development of Lightweight, Wind-Resistant Steel Profiles for Photovoltaic Mounting Systems.” It is expected that two brand-new low-carbon steel products will be launched within the year, along with applications for multiple utility‑model patents.
Meanwhile, the company has established an internship and training base for university students, annually welcoming 20 students majoring in mechanical design and materials engineering to gain hands-on experience on-site. This targeted program cultivates specialized talent in steel structure fabrication, CNC programming, and anti-corrosion technologies, helping to address the local shortage of skilled workers in the metal-processing sector. According to the Changge Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, university–enterprise collaboration bridges the innovation and industrial chains, aligning with the local policy direction of promoting integrated development among industry, academia, and research. Xinkuan Technology will leverage its laboratory as a platform for innovation, continuously upgrading its portfolio of high-end architectural metal components, and drawing on the research capabilities of universities to overcome key technological bottlenecks, thereby further solidifying its position as a leading supplier of curtain‑wall steel components in the Central Plains region.
